Wordcamp: Categorized List of Attendee’s Blogs
Jul 25th, 2007 by Markalope
This is as complete as I can make it, and it’s made from the attendees list on 2007.wordcamp.org. Patrick Havens did an excellent job on wordcamp.info telling us a little about each attendee, but so far as I know, this is the first semi-organized list of all the blogs. Note that this is just the “main” blog link that people included (if they chose to do so) on the Wordcamp registration form. Also, there are some sites that did not include a blog - I haven’t included those sites - this list is JUST FOR BLOGS. There are a couple sites that appear to be using Wordpress to manage the site but don’t include a blog. Those, I also left out. Anyone whose blog is on a business website and the blog’s content is dealing with the business, even if there’s some LOLcats or Wordcamp reviews in there, you’re “Corporate”. That includes a few design practices, but not all of them.
Oh, and anything that requires a signup is not on the list, sorry BuddySlim.
If you have a beef with your category - leave it in comments. Yes, the term “geekery” could be applied to pretty much any of these - I went with the “most obvious” theme to determine a site’s “category”. Also, I’ve not included anyone who has a blog, but no posts. If you’re displaying only the “Hello World” post, you’ll get on the list when there’s content. There are only a couple of non-English blogs on the list, just listed among the others.
Here’s the list: It’s very big - I’m putting behind a cut. I may turn this into a page for ease of reference:

Wow, nice job going through all of them, and sorting them. I didn’t quite make it through all the attendees, there just wasn’t time. I think I may make a copy of this for a folder in my book marks, thanks. I tried adding the OMPL list that Automattic had provided of all the blogs, but Google Reader choked on the file.
Thanks Patrick - I really enjoyed your posts about all the attendees, but I began wondering, especially during the run-up to Lorelle’s presentation, when she was working the room, about how many different types of bloggers were among us. It was hard to categorize everything…. And yeah - the OPML file contained a lot of URLs that would not have registered as valid feeds - although I used that file as a basis for this post (well, that file and a crapload of work in Excel to organize and apply tags to each of the list items). Thanks for the comments, and your event coverage.
As an attendee to Wordcamp 2007 I greatly appreciate the list of Bloggers who also attended. Best 25 dollars I’ve spent in quite awhile. Long live Wordpress and it’s users!
WordCamp was a thrill! So many really nice people to meet. Next year let’s have a 3-day. On the 3rd day lets have a good ole South Carolina ‘pig pickin’. It sure is fun to look at the blogs of the attendees. Thanks for presenting the list in this way.
Wow! Look at all the connections in the list! Are you all blogging about others in your category? You should be blogging and reading them. Wow!
Thanks so much for doing this. Invaluable!
[...] Markalope was intrigued by this, too, and put together a categorized list of all the attendees at WordCamp 2007, grouped by their blogging subject, if he could find it on their blog. [...]
Hi Markalope,
I was there! Loved it. Don’t know why my name on the list of attendees at wordcamp.org doesn’t link to my blog. The category is “Quilting.” Thank you so much!
Kay
@ Lorelle: Yes, That’s why I put this together - I definitely wanted to see who was in my “category” and I intend to follow up by reading writing and blogging a few things soon, if I wasn’t so crazy busy. Thanks for the linkback.
@Kay: I added you to the list, although I must admit that I categorize blogs like yours as “Special Interest/Single Topic” so luckily the title of your blog pretty much clues us in to what you’re focusing on. Thanks for the comment.
Hi Markalope:
I’m glad you organized the list too, as I found it a bit overwhelming as one looooooooong list of attendees. This was my first experience with Word Camp and I agree with Robert - it was the best $25 I’ve spent in a long time!! Can’t wait until next year.
Cheers,
Darin
Hey Mark, nice job. My only comment is that my site fits more in the “Tech/Software/Geekery” category you have set up instead of General/Personal interest. I’ve cleaned up my front page to make that a bit more clear.
Brooke - I moved it - thanks for the comment. The toughest part about this list is assigning a category, since all of us are pretty hard to categorize, unless that’s our mission. I had to draw the line somewhere!
Thanks for putting together this list! It’s a great way to learn more about other WP bloggers, but also about their topics of interest. Definitely looking forward to spending time in the next week checking out everybody’s blogs.
Mark
Thanks Mark!
Kay
Thanks for the listing. My experience with Wordcamp this year wasn’t the best (see http://tuttysan.wordpress.com/2007/07/23/wordcamp-2007/), but I’m hoping next year I can make it there on time and be in a better place!
@tuttysan: yes - I read your post about your experience when I was checking out your blog. After reading it I wished I had gotten a chance to talk to you a bit - maybe next year!
Markalope, that was really nice of you to put this together. Very helpful! Thank you …
Best,
Rachelle
Wow, you’re probably tired of the praise by now, but you did a great job of sorting all the blogs.
Thanks for taking the time to set this up; I’m enjoying checking these out.
I had no idea what to expect from WordCamp and had a great time… met some interesting people, learned a few things too. Looking forward to next year!
